Photo Gallery - A.E. Mitchell
Andrew Edgar Mitchell (A.E.) was born March 10, 1877 in Elora, Ontario, Canada and grew up in a home with his five siblings above his father, Robert’s, saddlery shop on the Grand River (pictured in the background), which he loved. His mother, Martha, managed a confectionary shop in the same building. His father was from Scotland and his mother grew up in Canada. Their family home is still there in the downtown area of Elora. Andrew had an exceptional God-given artistic gift. Andrew passed away on March 16, 1964 at age 87. These photos are from his amazing life.
NOTE: At the end of the photo gallery, there is another gallery of some familiar faces…giants of the faith who Andrew and his family knew and did ministry with including Corrie ten Boom, Billy Graham, Dawson Trotman, Dick Hillis, etc.

Andrew's first professional job was at JL Hudson's store in Detroit, MI. He drew something for the store and they hired him on the spot.

Giants of the Faith
Andrew and his wife Jennie and children knew some wonderful “giants of the faith”. See the gallery below.
Billy Graham spoke at the Baptist World Convention in Brazil in 1960 and Hubert Mitchell (on Rev. Graham's left) played the piano. Andrew Mitchell, friend to Rev. Graham, is on his right. We have many letters the Billy Graham Library has provided digitally between Rev. Graham and Hubert but have not found letters to and from Andrew yet. The young reporter for LIFE Magazine on the right is still living. Click on the photo to hear Rev. Graham's address at the conference.
Corrie ten Boom was a goof friend of Jennie Mitchell's and several family members. Click on the photo for Corrie ten Boom's bio.

Evangelist Paul Rader with Andrew's son-in-law David Morken. See a timeline of Paul Rader's life by clicking on the photo.
Andrew's son-in-law David E. Morken (1910–2003) was a missionary, evangelist, and close associate of Billy Graham, particularly active in Asia and later during various Crusades. He served as a missionary in Sumatra and, alongside his wife Helen, supported Graham’s evangelistic efforts. He is sometimes referred to as a "missionary statesman" and, at times, a member of the Graham team.
Aimee Semple McPherson, the Mitchell's pastor in the 1920s-early 1930s. Click on the photo for a bio of Aimee's life.
This photo of Aimee was taken by Andrew's son Bryant. She married Bryant and Lola Lee at Angelus Temple in 1928.

Paul Fleming, friend to the Mitchells, enjoyed Andrew and Jennie's letters of support and encouragement to missionaries.
From Jennie and the Song of the Meadowlark book: "Paul Fleming, who later founded the New Tribes Mission, wrote from British Malaysia that her (Jennie's) admonitions lifted him from 'down in the cellar to the top of the mountain.'" Paul died in 1950 in the New Tribes Mission plane crash on Mt. Moran in Wyoming.
Dawson Trotman, founder of the Navigators. Andrew's son Hubert Mitchell and son-in-law David Morken ministered with Dawson and are mentioned on the Navigators site. See the page by clicking on the photo.

Dr. Frank C. Thompson of the Thompson Chain Reference Bible hired Andrew to crate many illustration in the back of the Bible in the 1920s when they were both teaching at LIFE Bible College. Here they are in the Prayer Garden behind the Mitchell family home. Click on the photo to see Dr. Thompson's bio.
