Family
A.E. Mitchell was born in 1877 in Elora, Ontario, Canada to Martha and Robert Mitchell. He had 5 siblings, a brother and 4 sisters. He married his first wife Sadie in Colorado in 1902. Sadie passed away in 1919 leaving Andrew and four children, Bryant, Hubert, Helen and Jean. In 1920 Andrew married school teacher Jennie Clay and they had two girls, Esther and Marietta. All the children went into missions and ministry.
“It was a special hour right after supper every night when the whole family stayed for “prayers.” Prayers were never boring, dull or tedious. No! It was a time of laughter, fun, singing and stimulating training. From my perspective today as a great-grandmother, I wonder at the wisdom and love of our parents in establishing a time and a place for daily gathering their children together for the purpose of helping them to know God and to hold His Word as sacred.” - Esther Mitchell Russell, daughter of Andrew and Jennie Mitchell
